Hate Crimes and Religious Expression: Bill C-9

Bill C-9, the Combating Hate Act, was introduced in September 2025 and is presently before the Justice Committee for amendments. Of particular concern to TCCC is the removal of an important protection for religious expression, as well as a loose definition of hate. Please read the attached document provided by the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada to educate yourself on the issue.
You are encouraged to contact your Members of Parliament to voice your concerns. In addition, TCCC will be organizing the signing of paper petitions on February 1 and 8 to express our concerns with Bill C-9 to our MPs.

TCCC will partner with the Penonome Chinese Christian Church (PCCC) to hold the 2nd English Camp for middle and high school students from May 28 to June 8, 2026. The camp is for local students aged 13–18.
The purpose of this mission trip is to assist PCCC in developing youth community outreach ministries, strengthen cross-church participation in missions, and nurture a new generation of mission disciples. This initiative supports the vision of PCCC’s new church building project and lays the foundation for future youth mission collaboration.
The team will be led by Pastor Kimberly Zhao from the Mandarin congregation. For inquiries, please contact Pastor Kimberly or Deacon Ken Ma.

Prayer

Pray that our English Congregation would grow in spiritual depth and outward compassion—that Christian Education and the Lenten season would draw us closer to God’s Word, that the Bundle and Flow Drive would reflect Christ’s love to families in need, and that through shared service and the Gathering Table, people would feel connected, cared for, and encouraged to join us in worship.

Mandarin Congregation

Pray for the upcoming ministries and gatherings this season—that the February/March Sunday School on Ephesians would deepen our understanding of what it means to be in Christ, the February 14th Spring Festival would be a joyful time of fellowship and outreach, and that the planning for the May 16th to 18th Retreat would be guided by God’s wisdom and purpose, preparing hearts for renewal and deeper community.

Cantonese Congregation

Pray that God would use our evangelistic training, Alpha Course, Stream of Life sermon-based groups, and Prime Time and Friday Outreach ministries to build up believers, lead them to follow the Holy Spirit daily, and draw more unbelievers to Christ, and pray also for those who are sick or grieving the loss of loved ones, that the Lord would bring healing, comfort, and peace.

105 Gibson

Please pray for the free tax clinic service that begins in March, for the preparation work, asking for God’s presence and blessing, for suitable volunteers to be found, and for every detail to go smoothly. May this ministry become a conduit of His provision, serving those in need in the community, and a living demonstration of the hope and compassion of Jesus Christ.

What's Happening Today

High School CE will be happening today, February 8th. Freedom Forward: A class on overcoming sexual strongholds and walking in freedom. Taught by Wilson Ho, Natalie Chan, and Pastor Sam. Every Sunday in Room 306 from 11:15-12:15 pm.

Our Adult CE classes will be happening today, February 8th, after service in Room 308. We will be going through a series of individual classes that seek to address common questions and topics, which are relevant to Christians today.
The topic will be on: Religious Freedom, taught by Cecilia Wu

CE Classes

Beginning February 8, our Newcomers Small Group will transition into a new and exciting way to help guests connect with our church family — the Connection Table.
Each Sunday, special tables will be reserved for newcomers in the kitchen eat-in area outside the Oasis Café. This relaxed and welcoming space is designed to help you meet others, build friendships, and learn more about our church community. If you are new, we invite you to first stop by the Newcomers Welcome Booth to receive a special welcome gift. Afterward, join us at the Connection Table for fellowship and conversation. We look forward to getting to know you and helping you feel at home!

Upcoming Events

Next Sunday, February 15th, will be our Family Day Service, along with our Parent Child Dedication. It will be a joint-worship gathering, with all children (Ages 4+) joining.

We’re excited to partner with the 105 Gibson Food Bank for our Bundle and Flow Drive! We’ll be collecting diapers (sizes 3 and up) and menstrual products to help support families and women in our community. These everyday essentials are often forgotten, yet they make a meaningful difference in daily life. We will be launching on Sunday, February 15. Let’s come together and make a strong impact!

Our 2026 Children’s Day Camp registration will open on February 22nd at 2:00 PM. Spots are limited, and will cap at 100 children. Day Camp is available for children between the ages of 5 and 11.
Stay tuned for details to be announced in the coming weeks.

We would like to invite you to The Gathering Table on Wednesday, February 25th, at 6:30 pm. It’s a chance to deepen connections within our English congregation while welcoming those who may not usually attend on Sundays – an opportunity to invite your non-Christian friends and anyone seeking a spiritual home. There’s no set program; join us for dinner and enjoy some time together afterwards to connect.
Registration Deadline: Wednesday, February 18th
We’re looking for volunteers! You can indicate your interest in volunteering when you register for the event. If you have any questions, please contact communications@tccc.ca

ACEM News

The ACEM Media Department has created beautiful wallpapers for computers and mobile phones to wish all brothers and sisters a happy Lunar New Year. Feel free to download and share.

1. V&J (Middle East)
Please pray for V&J’s family as they transition back to the Middle East after home assignment, asking that their children adjust well, especially with a smooth return to school, the gift of a good friendship, and continued health and strength for their baby amid many changes.
Please also pray for their team to seek God together with a clear vision and obedient hearts, and for His provision and wisdom as they wait for finances and discernment to purchase the right car for their family and ministry.

2. Nicole Wong (Local, Across U-hub)
May the Lord grant spiritual discernment and gentle wisdom, teaching Nicole and her team to listen truly, to slow their pace, and to walk alongside young people with pure motives; not lingering on ideas or outcomes, but simply responding to God’s calling to the younger generation.
